Bees play a vital role as pollinators by transferring pollen between flowers, enabling fertilization, seed production, and fruit development.
We would love to have you join us in celebrating pollinators and fostering community engagement.
Tabling opportunity open to volunteers who would love to share information about bees. It's a great opportunity to engage with the community about the vital role pollinators play in our ecosystem.

⭐ Event Highlights⭐ :
- Participating Organizations: Booths from Trout Unlimited, SALT, Conservation Corps of LB, Latinas Art Foundation, and more.
- Community Engagement: Attendees will have the chance to provide input on planting options and signage, helping them visualize potential plants for our local environment.
- Trail Map: A guided trail map will lead participants through the park, highlighting various activities.
- Food: A possible food giveaway in partnership with a local food pantry and maybe will have small pop-up food vendors on site.
- Activities: Enjoy fun games like Connect 4, hula hoops, and Jenga, along with fitness classes including Zumba to promote health and well-being.
- Art Booth: There will also be an ongoing art booth for creative expression.
Long Beach Beekeepers welcomes Dave Goulson, Professor of Biology at the University of Sussex specializing in bee ecology, as our March speaker. Professor Goulson's Saving Our Insects presentation will cover the importance of insects, the causes of insect decline and what can be done to reverse the trend.
In addition to a guest speaker, meetings feature a Honey of the Month tasting and an opportunity drawing. What a sweet deal! In March our Honey of the Month comes courtesy of club member Inger Nelson.
Long Beach Beekeepers meet on the first Sunday of the month and welcome everyone from the experienced to the novice beekeeper to those just curious about beekeeping. The in-person meeting is open to the general public. Members who opt to attend online will be emailed the meeting link and passcode one day prior to the meeting.

Beekeeping 101 is an introductory class that will give beginners a glimpse into the secret lives of honeybees. The class includes instruction, discussions, and suiting up to inspect the hives in the bee yard, weather permitting. We invite guests to take the class more than once, as there’s always something new happening in the hive. Recommended for ages 8+.
NOTE REGARDING SPACE: Beekeeping 101 is currently offered twice a month, at two separate apiaries. Space is limited and the classes fill very quickly. Reserve your spot by registering now. Once the class fills, you will be able to join the wait list. We will notify you if a space opens up, or you will get priority registration for the next Beekeeping 101. For children under 8yo, please contact us to be placed on the list for our next "Beekeeping 101 for Kids" class.

Have you fallen in love with the honey bees in your garden or during a visit to Beekeeping 101? Are you ready to take the next step to become a full-fledged beekeeper? Do you want to make 2026 your most memorable year ever? We have exactly the thing for you!
This course provides the instruction and hands-on experience to turn a beginner into a confident backyard beekeeper. Topics include hive management, bee biology, recognizing and treating common diseases and predators, legal requirements of keeping bees in Long Beach, and more.
After completing the course successfully, participants may join the Bee Team for additional practice inspecting hives.
Our class includes various components. Please read the dates carefully and mark all dates in your calendar. The class includes one in-person "Intro to Beekeeping held in a classroom setting, one OPTIONAL field trip to a beekeeping supply shop, one in-person "Introduction to the Apiary," two Zoom lectures, and one mentorship session in the bee yard.
WORKSHOP FOR 2026 PACKAGE BUYERS ONLY
Attention all package buyers! April bring us more than gusty, crisp, rainy days. 'Tis also the season for packaged bees! On Saturday, April 4, 1-3pm, Bill Lewis will demonstrate how to install a new package. If you have ordered bees for this spring, then this is the class for you! We will meet at the Willow Springs Bee Sanctuary. Please bring your suit and gloves. You’ll install packages at the Sanctuary. OPTIONAL: Next day, Sunday, April 5, 1-3pm, Bill will return to the apiary to make sure all is well. This will be a quick visit to remove the cage, make sure the bees are clustering, etc. Registered students are encouraged to attend on Sunday, if possible.

This event is free of charge and available to club members who are purchasing packages in 2026.
This “event” is the Bee Prepared mentor session. Students will be invited via email shortly after registration. Openings will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Open only to BP students, Autumn 2025.
STEAM Night at Bixby Elementary School
Tabling opportunity open to volunteers who would love to share information about bees. It's a great opportunity to engage with elementary school students and spark their interest in science, pollination, and the environment.

City Nature Challenge

⭐ Event highlights: City Nature Challenge is an international initiative organized by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County to record wildlife population data in urban areas. During the Challenge, people across the globe are encouraged to identify and contribute images of local plants, animals, and fungi to share with other community scientists through the iNaturalist app.
