Long Beach Beekeepers
This course provides the instruction and hands-on experience to turn a beginner into a confident backyard beekeeper. Topics include hive management, bee biology, recognizing and treating common diseases and predators, and legal requirements of keeping bees in Long Beach.
After completing the course successfully and at the club's discretion, participants are eligible to receive a starter bee colony when available at no additional cost. Frames and other hive equipment are not included.
There will by an in-person introductory group class on Saturday, October 15, from 8-10am at our Willow-Springs Bee Sanctuary, followed by two evening online classes on Thursdays October 20 and October 27, 7-9pm.
The class also includes one 2-hour in-person mentoring session working in hives with an experienced beekeeper on a Saturday or Sunday morning, second half of October (dates TBD). Each person will need their own beekeeping suit, gloves, hive tool and smoker for the mentoring session.
