Long Beach Beekeepers
This course provides the instruction and hands-on experience to turn a beginner into a confident backyard beekeeper. Topics include hive management, bee biology, recognizing and treating common diseases and predators, and legal requirements of keeping bees in Long Beach.
After completing the course successfully, participants are eligible to receive a starter bee colony when available at no additional cost. Frames and other hive equipment are not included.
There will by an in-person introductory group class on Saturday, May 21, from 8-10am at our Willow-Springs Bee Sanctuary, followed by two evening online classes on Thursdays May 26 and June 2, 7-9pm.
The class also includes a two hour in-person mentoring session working in hives with an experienced beekeeper on a Saturday or Sunday morning in May/June (dates TBD) . Each person will need their own beekeeping suit, gloves, hive tool and smoker for the mentoring session. Enroll now for more information about the course, zoom link for the class, and mentor session.
